About Crafts By Sophia |
I have been woodworking for over 20 years. I grew up in California near my grandparents who were both artists. I started learning woodcarving at age 8 with my granddad. While in high school, I learned the basics of designing and the use of artist’s tools from an inspiring art teacher and my interest has grown over the years. I have branched into various forms of woodworking ever since, as wood seems to be the medium that speaks to me and brings out more of my creativity.
Because I have limited vision I enjoy using wood due to its tactile properties. Wood allows me to use my sense of touch to create products. After moving to Vermont in 2006, I purchased a lathe and it has become my favorite tool in the shop.
I love to create products that are artistic, distinctive, and useful. I have designed and created a wide variety of kitchen and household items, toys, puzzles, holiday decorations, and much more that can be seen throughout the rest of the website.
I am passionate about using as many local materials as possible. I understand the importance of supporting other small businesses in New England. I would love to have suggestions for new products and requests for custom orders. Many of the best ideas have come from my customers. I invite you to e-mail me with ideas and questions about any of my products at sophia@craftsbysophia.com. |
